County Assessor

Job Description

As a County Assessor, your primary responsibility will be to assess the value of properties within the county for tax purposes. This role requires a deep understanding of property appraisal, valuation methods, and tax legislation to ensure fair and accurate assessments.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular assessments and re-assessments of residential and commercial properties.
• Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other technologies for property evaluation.
• Develop training materials and assist in training new assessors.
• Participate in public meetings to explain assessment processes.
• Represent the department in appeals regarding property assessments.
• Oversee administrative duties related to property records management.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business Administration, or related field

Experience

• 3+ years of experience in property assessment and/or valuation

Technical Skills

• Microsoft Excel
• Property assessment software (e.g., CAMA)

Soft Skills

• Problem-solving
• Negotiation skills

Certifications

• State certification as a property assessor

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Experience in creating and reviewing appraisal reports: Ability to draft comprehensive reports that summarize assessments.
• Expert knowledge of local real estate market trends: In-depth understanding of the market conditions affecting property values.
