Milling and Planing Machine Setter, Operator and Tender

Job Description

The Milling and Planing Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining planing machines to cut, shape and smooth surfaces of wooden boards or timber, ensuring high-quality production standards and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor planning machines to produce high-quality woodworking products according to specifications.
• Conduct machine setup, changeovers, and adjustments as required.
• Inspect and measure finished products to ensure they meet quality standards.
• Complete production reports and maintain accurate records of production activities.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Identify and report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the Production Supervisor.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities to optimize production efficiency and quality.

Requirements

Education

• Certificate III in Timber Processing (or equivalent)
• Current forklift license (advantageous)

Experience

• Minimum 2 years' experience operating planing machines in a woodworking or manufacturing environment.

Technical Skills

• Technical knowledge of planing machines and woodworking tools
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings

Soft Skills

• Attention to detail
• Team collaboration

Certifications

• First aid certificate (advantageous)

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Experience in using CNC machines: Hands-on experience with computer numerical control machinery.
• Experience in wood finishing processes: Familiarity with sanding, painting, or similar finishing techniques.
