Job Description

As a Barge Mate, you will assist in the safe navigation and operation of the barge. Your role includes supporting the Captain in navigating through inland and coastal waterways, ensuring compliance with relevant maritime regulations, and overseeing the safe loading and unloading of cargo.

Responsibilities

  • Aid the Captain in navigating the barge safely through challenging waterways.
  • Monitor compliance with strict marine regulations.
  • Assist in managing cargo operations effectively.
  • Conduct regular checks on equipment and resolve any malfunctions.
  • Compile and submit operational reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure adherence to company protocols and safety practices.
  • Support crew training initiatives and professional development.
  • Execute additional tasks as directed by supervisory staff.

Requirements

Education
  • Must hold a valid Maritime Safety Authority certificate (minimum of Barge Master Class 5)
  • Completion of relevant Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses
Experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in the marine transportation industry.

Languages
  • English: Fluent
