Job Description

As a Medical Records Specialist, you will play a crucial role in maintaining patient records, ensuring that all data is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with healthcare regulations. Your responsibilities will include processing requests for medical records, assisting with coding and billing, and supporting quality assurance initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve and review medical records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with data entry and maintain electronic health records (EHR).
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and other relevant legislation.
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers to transfer medical records as necessary.
  • Help implement quality improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Provide support during licensing and accreditation surveys.
  • Conduct regular audits of medical records for accuracy.
  • Facilitate training sessions for staff on medical record management best practices.
  • Manage patient record requests with a sense of urgency and accuracy.
  • Stay current with healthcare technology and trends.

Requirements

Education
  • Diploma in Health Information Management or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is a plus
Experience
  • 1-2 years in a similar role in a healthcare environment.
