Job Description

We are looking for a compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team in Melbourne. The successful candidate will design and implement tailored education plans for students with severe mental handicaps, ensuring that their individual needs are met.

Responsibilities

  • Create lesson plans that meet state curriculum standards while being accessible for students.
  • Utilize various teaching methodologies to cater to diverse learning styles.
  • Assist students in developing social skills and independence.
  • Engage in strong communication with all stakeholders (parents, therapists, and school administration).
  • Participate in developing school policies on special education.
  • Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities and their families.
  • Provide training and guidance to teacher aides or volunteer staff.
  • Actively participate in team meetings to discuss strategies and student progress.

Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or relevant field
  • Master's degree in Special Education or Educational Psychology is a plus
Experience
  • 3+ years working with children with severe mental handicaps.
