Clinical Microbiologist

Job Description

As a Clinical Microbiologist, you will conduct laboratory tests and analyses to diagnose and treat infectious diseases. Your expertise will aid in developing treatment plans and collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.

Responsibilities

• Analyse patient samples using advanced microbiological techniques.
• Develop infection control strategies based on laboratory findings.
• Assist in supervising laboratory operations to ensure efficiency and compliance.
• Contribute to research aimed at improving diagnostic methods.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper calibration and maintenance.
• Document all procedures and results in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Provide consultations for treatment of infectious diseases.
• Engage in continuous education and training in microbiological practices.
• Implement new testing techniques and technologies.
• Collaborate with external laboratories and research institutions.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology or related field
• Master's or Doctoral Degree in Microbiology is preferred

Experience

• Experience in clinical microbiology techniques including identification and susceptibility testing.

Technical Skills

• Microbial Identification Techniques
• Data Analysis Tools (SPSS, Excel)

• Project Management

Certifications

• Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• Microbiology Certification (preferred)

Languages

• English: Fluent

• Hospital-Based Microbiology Experience: Familiarity with the operations of a hospital microbiology lab.
