Job Description

Seeking a diligent Harbor Tug Captain with excellent navigation skills to operate tugboats in Melbourne's busy harbor environment. The ideal candidate will ensure safety and efficiency while managing various marine tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Operate tugboats and manoeuvre them according to safety and operational guidelines.
  • Assist with docking and undocking of vessels, especially large ships.
  • Tow and push barges and vessels as needed within the harbor environment.
  • Conduct inspections and maintain tugboat machinery for optimal performance.
  • Coordinate with port authorities, pilots, and other maritime personnel during operations.
  • Ensure compliance with maritime laws and safety regulations.
  • Keep thorough records of operations, including logbooks and reports.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior crew members.
  • React swiftly to emergencies by assessing situations and implementing safety measures.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on tugboat machinery and equipment.

Requirements

Education
  • Valid Master Class 1 Near Coastal certificate
Experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in marine operations as a captain or in a similar role.
