Detention Deputy

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Detention Deputy who will be responsible for maintaining order and security within our facility. The ideal candidate will monitor inmate behavior, conduct security checks, and facilitate positive interactions with inmates while upholding safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage the movement of detainees within the facility
• Conduct inspections of detainees, cells, and other areas of the detention centre
• Ensure that all detainees are treated with respect and dignity
• Respond to emergencies and incidents within the detention centre
• Maintain documentation of all activities within the detention centre
• Attend training and development opportunities as required

Requirements

Education

• Certificate IV in Correctional Practice or equivalent

Experience

• Previous experience in a correctional or detention environment.

Technical Skills

• Conflict management
• Basic computer skills

Soft Skills

• Teamwork
• Strong observational skills

Certifications

• Current First Aid Certificate

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Experience with inmates with mental health issues: Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and understanding.
• Experience working with inmates with addiction issues: Understanding of the complexities surrounding addiction.
