Construction and Building Inspector

Job Description

The Bridge Inspector will be responsible for ensuring the safety and soundness of bridges through regular inspections, maintenance, and repair. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of bridge construction and design, as well as relevant industry standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive safety assessments on structural integrity of bridges.
• Implement preventive maintenance strategies to ensure long-term durability of structures.
• Collaborate with contractors and subcontractors during repair projects to ensure quality standards are upheld.
• Prepare inspection reports and communicate findings effectively to management.
• Keep accurate records of inspections and repairs, including photographic evidence.
• Stay informed on changes in regulations affecting bridge safety and maintenance.
• Train junior staff on inspection techniques and safety practices.
• Assist in budget planning for repair projects and maintenance schedules.
• Evaluate new technologies for improving inspection methodologies.
• Contribute to safety audits and compliance assessments.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
• Master's degree in Civil Engineering preferred

Experience

• 5+ years in bridge design and maintenance roles.

Technical Skills

• Bridge management software (e.g. Pontis)
• Project management

Soft Skills

• Team collaboration
• Problem-solving

Certifications

• Chartered Engineer status is a plus

Languages

• English: Fluent
