Drayman

Job Description

The Drayman is responsible for delivering goods using a horse-drawn cart or lorry, the dray. This role requires not just exceptional driving skills but also a keen attention to detail to ensure the safe transportation of goods.

Responsibilities

• Transport goods efficiently from warehouses to customer sites.
• Verify that deliveries match the accompanying documentation and invoices.
• Monitor road conditions and adapt routes as necessary.
• Perform daily vehicle inspections and report any maintenance issues.
• Communicate with the operations team regarding delivery schedules.
• Uphold company standards in customer service and professionalism during interactions.
• Assist in training new drivers on dray operation and safety practices.

Requirements

Education

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent

Experience

• At least 2-3 years of experience as a Drayman or in a similar role

Technical Skills

• Excellent driving skills
• Record-keeping

Soft Skills

• Attention to detail
• Communication

Certifications

• Valid driver's license and clean driving record

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• First Aid Certification: Certification in first aid is preferred for the safety of self and others.
