Pit Hand

Job Description

As a Pit Hand, you will assist with critical excavation activities and ensure the integrity of utility installations. This position demands physical strength and stamina, as well as a keen eye for detail and adherence to safety protocols. The successful candidate will work closely with a skilled team and will receive on-the-job training to enhance their skills in construction and trades.

Responsibilities

• Assist in excavating pits for utility installations.
• Utilise hand tools and equipment to construct and maintain pits.
• Ensure pits are properly sloped and backfilled.
• Install and connect utilities, such as cables and pipes within pits.
• Perform regular maintenance and repairs on pits.
• Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Load and unload materials and manage work area cleanliness.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure project efficiency.
• Report any issues or hazards to the Pit Supervisor.
• Contribute to a team-oriented work environment.

Requirements

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience

• Previous experience in construction or a manual labour role is advantageous but not essential.

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Heavy machinery operation experience: Experience in operating excavators or similar machinery is a plus.
• First Aid/CPR certification: Certification in First Aid and CPR is highly regarded.
